Description

The Michigan Equity, Courage, Hope, and Opportunity (MI ECHO) Scholarship is for individuals who cannot access federal financial aid and who worked on the frontlines anytime from March 2020–present during the COVID-19 pandemic. The candidate must be eligible for acceptance into a certificate or associates degree program at a community college or tribal college and cannot have earned an associates or bachelor’s previously in any country. An individual who completed a certificate is eligible to pursue an associate’s degree. The individual must complete a certificate or associates within 3 years of being admitted in the program. The individual must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for the program:

  • Must be an individual who cannot access federal financial aid (ex. DACA, TPS, Asylum pending, Special Immigrant Juveniles, etc).
    • Not be on default on a federal student loan
  • Must be enrolled in a Michigan or participating institution

  • Must not have previously earned an associate or baccalaureate degree
    • Individuals who earned a certificate previously but have not yet earned an associate or bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply for this program (a certificate is less than 60 credit hours).
    • Individuals who are currently enrolled in an associate degree program or certificate program but have not completed either are eligible to apply for this program.

  • Must have graduated from high school with a diploma or certificate of completion or a high school equivalency certificate
    • Or must be near completion of earning a HS diploma, certificate of completion, or high school equivalency certificate (Includes seniors in HS).
    • Or if an individual has completed high school abroad and can submit a diploma evaluation report.

  • Must enroll within 6 months of being accepted in program or reapply.
